Abstract

Solid wheels are widely used in automated and manual industrial trucks for goods handling due to their versatility. The purpose of this work is to design and develop a test bench for experimental characterization of solid wheels, which can simulate the in-service behavior and reproduce the causes of coating collapse. The bench can accommodate wheels ranging from 200 mm to 600 mm in diameter and up to 400 mm in width, which can be subjected to static or alternating loads up to 100 kN, variable speed over the typical operating range, and exposure to contaminants. Consisting of four equispaced portals, the bench features a rotating circular table with a diameter of 5 m, on which different floors can be installed. It is in-tended to employ the bench to carry out an experimental campaign to provide useful data to develop a predictive model of the wear, mechanical fatigue and thermomechanical phenomena of the coating.
